TIMARU MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited, report under date 12th instant as follows : WHEAT. The excitement recently noted in the market for this cereal has subsided to a very great extent; buyers generally now operating with extreme caution, and only providing for current requirements. Sydney advices report the market weak and irregular, owing to heavy arrivals from New Zealand, and reported forward contracts in Californian wheat. Against this, however, wo have the undoubted fact that New South Wales alone will require over 0,000,000 bushels to meet the deficiency in her harvest, and taking 3£ million bushels as the surplus available for export from New Zealand, it follows that the colony named will still require to import 2£ million bushels from elsewhere. In the face of this wc do not think that farmers need fear any permanent material fall in values, although prices will no doubt fluctuate more or less throughout the season. Transactions during the week have been at prices ranging from 3s 9d to 3s lid in the early part of the week to 3s 7d to 3s 9d, which we quote as present values for red chaff and Tuscan, respectively, OATS. The new crop is slow in coming forward, and all linos offering moot with ready sale at 2s fid to 2s 7d for Danish, and up to 2s 9d for milling sorts. BAKEEV. There is little or nothing doing in this grain, buyers not cariiig to lay in stocks at the prices

asked by owners. We quote prime malting at | 3s 6d per bushel.

CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Christchurch Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, April 12th, 1889 A steady business has been transacted during the week in both wheat and oats. The former has well maintained the previous week’s values, especially Tuscan, which is in better demand than the short-berried kinds. Oats have shown a slight upward tendency with considerable sales.
