The German warship Olga, which was run ashore during the recent gales in Apia harbour, was successfully floated and came on here, arriving this morning. The steamer Lubeck also arrived from Samoa this morning with a large number of the shipwrecked sailors belonging to the German warships Bber and Adler. News from Apia says that it is understood that the German troops are to be withdrawn from Samoa, with the exception of about 60 men, who remain to protect German property and interests.

The Frisco mail steamer Alameda called at Apia on her trip to San Francisco, and took on 40 of the American sailors, who were either suffering from injuries sustained during the wrecks or from fevers. A large number of bodies have been washed ashore and buried. The total number of lives lost is given at 143. Groat damage was caused throughout the group, and it is estimated that it will take full two years to recover from the effects of the hurricane. The natives especially will severely feel the loss of food. ( By Telegraph. ) WELLINGTON, April 13. The mayor has replied to a proposition from Auckland that steps be taken to furnish

assistance to the Samoans in view of the likelihood of a scarcity of food, that it is better to wait till it is actually known whelner distress exists. The city council endorsed this view.
