AUSTRALIAN.

(Per Electric Telegraph—oops right.) (Per Press Association.) (Received 1 p.m. April 12tb.) LORD AND LADY ONSLOW. Sydney. April 12, In the course of an interview to-day Lord Onslow said that he had endeavored to arrange his departure for Hobart by the s.s. Cuzco, and there join the direct steamer for New Zealand. It was found, however, that the date upon which the direct steamer would reach Hobart was not suitable, Lord Onslow has positively

decided that he and Lady Onslow shall leave by the Mariposa on the 17th for Auckland. After reaching Auckland the route to Wellington is uncertain. They do not relish the idea of travelling from Auckland to Wellington by the Hinemoa as they are both bad sailors. An alternative route from Auckland to Napier by the s.s, Waihora is open to them and it has been suggested that they should then proceed overland from Napier to Petone at the head of Wellington harbour, and then a small steamer could convey them to Wellington wharf. The other alternative route would be entirely overland from Auckland to Wellington. Mr Wald, Lord Onslow’s private secretary, leaves by the Tekapo on Monday for Wellington direct, and will arrange with Sir Harry Atkinson as to the most desirable route for Lord Onslow to take. Lord Onslow made enquiries here as to the advisableness of purchasing horses in Australia, but was advised to make his purchases in New Zealand. This advice he has decided to accept. Lord Onslow was entertained to-day by the Masonic lodges. SMALLPOX IN SYDNEY. The steamer Guthrie is expected to arrive hero to-night from Eastern ports. Two of the crew are suffering from smallpox. THE ROYALIST. Arrived—H.M.S. Royalist, from Auckland,
