Before daybreak one morning recently, Sergeant Jones, whilst on police duty at Greenfield, near Holywell, observed a figure attired in white making its way to the sea* shore. The officer followed, and found the person to be attired in his night-clothes and stockings only. He gave the name of David Lewis, and said he was over seventy years of age, and resided at Walwen, and that he intended drowning himself in the river Dee. In taking the old man on the way home, the officer found the man’s wife also in her night clothes, lying by the side of the road. Alarmed by her husband’s strange conduct, she had followed him from bed, but becoming numbed and exhausted, she had fallen to the ground unconscious. The old man was placed in charge of some neighbours but some hours afterwards he managed to escape, and was only rescued after a struggle just as he was entering the river. The police have reported the matter to the authorities, with a view of having the old man medically examined as to his sanity.
