Rifle Match.

NORTH CANTERBURY V. SOUTH CANTERBURY. A match which has been looked forward to with-considerable interest, came of yesterday on the Otipna range. It had been arranged that the Rangiora Rifle Club should send a team to Timam to fire against the South Canterbury Rifle Club, and the northern men arrived on Monday evening, when a meeting'of the two sides was held, and it was decided to fire the match at 200, 300 and 500 yard ranges, as these distances were more suited to-tne weapons of the visitors. Yesterday morning the teams left town in expresses, starting from Mr Rowley's shop at 10.30. Theweather was simply perfect for shooting, and the scores were consequently good. The Timara men gained a decisive victory, which was in a great measure due to the fact that they fired with DeeleyEdge rifles, while the visitors used the Sniier.

It was intended to have ten shots at each range, bat owing to the number of men shooting it was found impossible to carry ont the intention. After the first range the number of shots were curtail led to seven shots at each distance, and even then darkness eame on before the match was'completed, The following are the scores :
