Census Returns.
[Ey Tbbegeaph.] Weiaington, April 27. The following census returns are available, subject to possible slight alteration : BOEOUGHS. Wanganui 4900 Thames 4460 Invercargill 4714 BLECXOEAIi DISTBXCTS. Thames 6038 Waikato ••• 2395 Waitatara ... 5077 Egmont ... ... ... ... 5429 Waitaki ... 6853 Both Wanganui and Thames show a considerable decrease on the Registrar’s estimate. Mr Bfawn’s estimate for the whole colony as based on an increase of births over deaths and shipping returns, is 585,000, but a disturbing influence is the impossibility of ascertaining the number of people who go away without booking as passengers. The returns for the large towns are not yet in, and are not likely to be available for some time, owing to the large quantity of forms which have to be handled and carefully checked.
