Reduction in Cable Charges,
Melbourne, Aug. 22,
The Agent-Geueral, Mr Murray Smith •who is at present in Berlin attending the Telegraph Conference, telegraphs to is Government that he does not anticipate any difficulty in obtaining a reduction of the ordinary tariff on cable messages between Europe and Australia, but states that it is doubt' ful whether the desired Press rates will be acceded to.
Evacuating Kassala.
Cairo, Aug. 21.
News is to hand that the garrison at Kassala have made terms with the besieging Arabs, and the investment of the town Las been discontinued.
Cholera Spreading.
Paris, Aug. 21
Cholera is spreading at a most alarmrate in Marseilles and its vicinity, and the daily death rate is very largo.
