He referred to matters connected with the last election, and said that the report put about that Dr Fisher was to give him £SO if he withdrew from the contest, was a bare-faced fabrication, which the result had proved. He had since taken the trouble to go into this matter, and he had traced it to his present opponent. He advocated several reforms, one being the abolition of the Legislative Council; and the placing of railways under Boards of management. He believed in executing local works with local loans, and he would support a land tax, and give his aid to passing a Local Option Bill. In conclusion, he warned them not to believe the newspapers, and having stated that he was a working man with a brave heart, resumed his seat amid applause. After a number of questions had been asked and replied to, Mr I. C. Eeid moved, and Mr Dickson seconded, a vote of confidence in Mr Anderson as their representative, which was carried unanimously.
