A strong requisition has been presented to Mr Swanson, and it is said he has decided to stand for City East. Tawhai will not contest the northern electoral district. Sydney Taiwhanga is a candidate, and also Ihaka Totai, a northern chief.

Eyes has issued an address for Fioton, in opposition to the Hon Mr Connolly. The other candidates, including Mr Pilliet have withdrawn.

Christchurch, June 30. Mr John Crowes is a candidate for Sydenham. Mr Hugh M’Hraith will not contest Cheviot or any other seat. Mr F. J. Garrick addressed a meeting at Merivale, and received a vote of thanks and confidence. He avowed a general support of Sir Julius Yogel. The City Council has resolved to ask Government to proclaim July 22nd, the day of the elections, a public holiday. Mr John Scott, of Scott Brothers, ironfounders, comes forward for Sydenham.

Mr J. T. Fisher, formerly member for Heathcote, and Postmaster-General in Grey’s Government, will contest Heathcote against Messrs Coster and WynnWilliams. Ashburton, June 30. Mr W. G, Walker, County Chairman, has announced his intention of contesting the Ashburton seat with Mr J. C. Wason. Mr J. E. C. C. Graham is also out for the same constituency. Oamaku, June 30. Lord Reidhaven is being requisitioned to stand for Oamarn. Mr Charles Wesley has been brought forward by the Maoris, to oppose Mr Taiaros for the South Island Maori seat. Dunedin, June 30. Mr A. H. Eoss, Chairman of the Harbor Board is definitely out for Eoslyn. Mr O. J. Hodge is likely to bo. a candidate for tho Peninsular against Mr Larnach. Nr N. Y, A. Wales is asked to stand for Eoslyn, and Mr James Gore an ex-Mayor, for Dunedin South. Mr James Arkle contests Waikouaiti in the Liberal interest. Invercargill, June 30. Mr James Gardner, of Birchwood, has withdrawn from the Wallace contest for private reasons. The friends of Mr Finlay Murchinson are getting up a requisition for him to stand for Hokonui.
