The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England, is £15,900,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 47 per cent. The market rate of discount has advanced to I£, and the Bank rate remains at 2 per cent. Consols have fallen -}, and are quoted to-day at 99|. New Zealand securities are quoted as follows 5 per cent 10-40 loan, 104£> 5 per cent 1889 loan, 103£ ; 4£ per cent 1879-1904 loan, 101 J; 4 per cent inscribed stock,-100£. The markets for colonial bread stuffs and tallow are without quotable change. [Received June 28, 1884,1.15 a.m.] Arrived Safe. The Marquis and Marchioness of Normanby have arrived at Liverpool. Lady Normanby is much improved in health. [Special to the Press Association/ London, June 25. The French Press generally expresses itself opposed to the agreement on Egyptian affairs arrived at by the Government with England. Prince Bismarck’s statement that Germany protests against the subjects of any European Power attempting to acquire lands in unsettled and ownerless countries, is exciting a good deal of comment all over Europe.
The Khedive has ordered the immediate evacuation of Dongola. An attack on Korosko is imminent.
Colonial mails will, it is notified by the Postmaster General, be in future forwarded weekly by the first opportunity. Earl Kimberley will preside at the banquet to the Marquis of Normanby. Messrs Shaw, Seville and new steamer Arawa, intended for the New Zealand direct service, has been launched on the Clyde. June 26. At the Conference on Egyptian affairs, England will be represented by Earl Granville and the Hon H. C. Childers ; and France, by M. Waddington and M. de Bligniers. In reference to the outbreak of cholera at Toulon, experts differ as to its nature, some asserting that it is Asiatic, and others that it is sporadic. Several addeaths have occurred. Mr R. A. Arnold, member for Salford, has given notice of an amendment to the effect that the House will withhold its opinion until the financial proposals on the Egyptian question ore disclosed.'
