The first steeplechase meeting arranged by the Geraldine Racing Club took place to-day on the new course at Orari. The going was rather heavy, and some of the jumps were very formidable ones, but there was nothing which a fair cross-country horse could not get overThe weather was all that could be desired when the meeting opened, and the attendance was fair but not so large " as was expected. It may be mentioned that the entire horse, Qunningtoo, with all his engagements, was sold on the. course by MrD. McLean, to Mr Gould, of Woodbury, for £32. 1 The following are details of the ; racing:— Gang Pobwabd Stakes of 150 sovb, distance about 2% miles. Mr P. The trio went away to a good start and kept well together the first time round. On the second round Ben H. fell at one of the fences but sustained no injury, although the mishap put him out of the race. This was a good race, but it was won : easily by six lengths. ■ Totalisator dividend, £4 ss. NAPIER STEEPLECHASES. Napiee, June 26. The racecourse is well attended,about 2500 people being present. The weather ia fine but the course is very heavy at the back. A good start was effected for the , Maiden Steeplechase, Home Buie going away with the lead. King Arthur,. Coacher, and Assegai at once went to the front, coming towards the stand in that order. At the jump in front, King Arthur fell, which caused Abolition to baulk. Coacher was first over followed by Assegai. At the next jump King Arthur came down and took no further part in tho race. At the sod wall before the straight was entered Assegai took the lead followed by Coacher. A splendid race up the straight ensued first one leading and ' then the other, and after a magnificent finish it resulted in a dead heat between Assegai and Coacher. Skylark who was distanced, being third. The inside dividend on Assegai was £1 12s, Coacher £3 12s. Outside totalisator—Coacher, £4 14s, Assegai £3 14s. The betting at the start was 5 to 2 against King Arthur, 5 to l Coacher, 6 to 1 Assegai, 8 and 10 to 1 the others. Ladies’ Bracelet, 1 j miles. Lady Artist... 1 Denbigh ... ... ... 2 Gberon 3 Eleven horses came to the post. O heron and Denbigh led from the start, and kept pegging away at it till the straight was reached, when Lady Artist, half way up, shot ahead, and came away from her horses, winning easily by two lengths, the same distance separating the aecond and third horses. .
