The prediction that the Atlantic would presently be crossed in six days appears to be fairly on its way towards realisation. The brilliant exploits of the Guion steamers Arizona and 2’aska are thrown into the shade by the extraordinary passage of the Oregon (about 7CCI tons), the last new vessel of the same Company. Leaving Queenstown on Sunday, April 13, she arrived at New York at 5 p.m. on Sunday, 20th, having accomplished the distance in 6 days 10 hours and 10 minutes, or 12 hours less than the _ fastest passage previously on record, which had been made by her sister vessel, the Alaska. Such a brilliant voyage as that of the Oregon makes it quite possible that with a steady and favorable wind the ship might cover the distance between New York and Queenstown in the six days which only a few enthusiasts ventured to forecast a few years ago, as the probable limit of an Atlantic passage. In some 30 years the voyage has been reduced from 14 days_ to 7, and it would be rash to assign limits to the improvements going on daily before our eyes.
