I HEREBY GIVE NOTICE in accordance with the Provisions of the “ Licensing Act, 1881,” the amended Act thereof, and the “ Regulation of Elections Act, 1876,’' that the ANNUAL ELECTION of FIVE QUALIFIED PERSONS as Members of the Licensing Committee for the Borough of Timaru, will be held at the Town Hall, Timaru, on THURSDAY, the 7th February, 1884. Nominations of Candidates must be In the form set forth in the “ Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” addressed to the Returning Officer, and delivered at the Town Clerk’s Office, Timaru, before noon, on MONDAY, f the 28th day of January, 1884. THE Board, in pursuance of powers in that behalf conferred by “The Education Act, 1877 ” (section 64), hereby directs that a PDBLIC MEETING of the HOUSEHOLDERS in every School District throughout the Education District of South Canterbury, be he 1 d on MONDAY, the twenty eighth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty four, at _ seven o’clock in the evening, for the Election in each District of Seven Householders (section 64) to form the Committee for such District for the year ending with the fourth Monday in January, eighteen hundred and eighty-five. The place of meeting shall be the Schoolhouse in each District which is provided with aSehoolhouse. In the Districts in which Schools are not yet built, the places of meeting shall be as follows Belfield, at the house of Mr Newport. Waihao Forks, Waihao Forks Hotel. Kakabu Bosh, at the house of Messrs Walker and McDougall.

The Board farther directs that the First Meeting of each School Committee be held in the place appointed for the Elections, and immediately after the election upon the same evening. The Board requests the Chairman of each Public Meeting to make to the Board, immediately after the election, a return of the names of the several householders elected to form the Committee, and recommends that each Chairman of Committee report his own election as soon as possible.
