Hews has been received that the British India Steam Navigation Company’s steamship Duke of Westminister, 2427 tons, from Brisbane (left Nov. 6th) ran ashore on the Isle of Wight and is in a critical position. All the passengers have been landed in safety. Tugs have gone to the vessel’s assistance. Asking British Aid.

A note has been addressed by the Egyptian Government to the British Foreign Minister, in which a demand is made for England’s assistance in the Soudan. The Note states that unless this be accorded the Egyptian Government will be compelled to relinquish to Turkey the eastern portion of the Soudan, and concentrate its troops in Egypt Proper, and thus be able to dispense with the British Army of occupation.
