Public RevenueSydney, Jan. 4. The New South Wales revenue for last quarter amounted to £1,860,000, being a decrease of £226,500 compared with the December quarter of 1882. The revenue for the year ended on 31st nit., amounted to £6,480,000, a decrease of £942,000 as compared with that for 1882. Daring the year the revenue from land decreased by £1,040,000. Brisbane, Jan. 4. The Queensland revenue for 1 last quarter amounted to £646,000, an in. crease of £139,500, as compared with the last quarter of 1882. The increases are chiefly in Customs, land, and railway revenue. Shipping. Memodbne, Jan. 4. Arrived, last evening—Waihora,from the Bluff. Distinguished Visitors. Hobabt, Jan. 4. The Earl and Countess of Rosebery are now on a visit to this colony, Theliails. Murray junior has accepted Dinnie’s challenge to dance for £IOO. Sadden Death. William Wilson, an old resident of Hilton, died of apoplexy this morning. Found Dead* A man supposed to be T. O, Bennett) was found dead at Sbingley Creek. He is. supposed to have fallen from his horse. Sad Fatality. InveeoargiMi Jan. 4. A man named Thomas Smith, aged 57, was received into the Hospital on New Tear’s night with several ribs fractured. He stated that the injury was caused through a fall while wrestling at Lumsden township, about fifty miles from Invercargill. Inflammation of the lungs set in, and Smith died yesterday. The police have made enquiries, and probably an inqnest will be held.
