The consecration of Dr Alfred Barry to the Metropolitan See of Sydney, New South Wales, took place at Westminster Abbey to-day. The ceremony was very largely attended both by clergy and laity, and all parts of the edifice were crowded. Causes of the Brogden Failure. The failure of Messrs Alexander and Henry Brogden is attributed to the rejection of their appeal to the Government of New Zealand for the liquidation of their claims in connection with colonial railway contracts, and to numerous minor failures in the iron trade. The Orangemen, who numbered fully 20,000 men, attacked a Parnellite gathering, but a strong force of troops was present, and prevented a serious collision of the two factions.
