CAPTAIN RUSSELL’S DISCLAIMER.
The report of the last meeting of the Timaru Harbor Board brings Captain Russel out. He informs the “ Dunedin Press ” that he has not made any report to the Underwriters Association about Timaru Harbor for some years. The information referred to by the Equitable Insurance Company, and which formed the subject of discussion at the Timara Harbor Board’s meeting on Wednesday, was obtained from a plan of the Timaru Harbor Works on which is shown the berth occupied by ships which load there ports. It is shown that at berth marked Aon the plan, there was 19 feet of water in the line of the foremast and 19£ feet at the mainmast. The plan carries at the head of it the following memo signed by the Harbor master Captain Webster :—“ Waimate Lurline, Arauca and Norway finished loading at this berth (A). Waimate left at first quarter ebb, drawing 18 feet 6 inches on even keel, on September 10, at 11 p.m.; September 11th, high water 9.5 p.m.
