FEDERATION.

[To the Editor.] Sir, —Your excellent article as to the almost absolute necessity of a Federation of the whole Empire, I believe fully expresses the feeling of almost all of the Australian and Now Zealand colonists. If we have that, with a free Imperial Federal Parliament, the Empire will to all appearance stand for ages and ages, as the bulwark of freedom and civilisation ; and if each of the three old kingdoms is fairly represented in it, Home Eule for each in home affairs, would be the natural and inevitable result; the Australian Colonies have Home Rule to the fullest extent, and are quite happy and contented under it. We Australasians can very well federate and ought to do so, for purely Australian matters, just as Canada has done, but that need not keep us outside the general federation of the Empire. When that is firmly established, we may all, whether we prefer the red or the green, rally under their own colors for the defence of the Empire. Thus there would be no further need of quarelling. Our religion could not be interfered with by anyone of contrary belief, — I am, &c,, Eed and Green.
