LEVELS ROAD BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Board was held to-day. Present —Messrs J. C. McKerrow (in the chair), A. Mee, A. Wilson, and W. J. Newton. A letter was read from Mr Moody, Chairman of the Board, apologising for unavoidable absence. COEEESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : From the Chairman of the Board, asking the Board to forbid electors to sign the petitition re suspension of the Counties Act more than once, though having votes in different ridings, as the number might thus be unduly swelled. He also advised that the Board should let the reserve near Eingsdown School, reserving access to the quarry. Referred to the overseer, to interview Mr Bristol.

From the Waimate County Council, re a joint application to Government by the Council and the Board for funds to repair the Pareora bridge. The matter bad been attended to. From the Temuka Road Board ze the unsettled account between the two Boards. The overseer reported that he had met the Temuka overseer and found that the Temuka Board had prepared a quantity of evidence of the liability of the Levels Board. The Board decided that it would be useless to carry on the dispute, and advisable to pay the amount. From Messrs Fleming and Hedley, offering the Board liberty to use a shingle pit on the Seadown estate for 3d per yard. The Board decided to accept the offer. From Mrs Cramond re formation of road at Attenborough, asked for by the residents.

Hr Manning attended personally to urge the request of the residents. He said there were 26 houses on the township without the formation of roads, and at present only tracks were available which, in winter, were dangerous. The Board declining to act, Mr Manning asked whether a special rate could not be struck for the purpose. It was finally agreed that Mr Manning should obtain signatures to a petition for a special rate; or, as an alternative, that the residents should voluntarily contribute half the cost of the road. From the Rev. Mr Gordon asking tho Board to make a safe footway over a certain gully at Seadown. Tho Board resolved that the road not having been made over to them, they could not sanction any expenditure upon it. RATES. It being shown that £I3OO rates were still outstanding, tho Board resolved to notify the ratepayers that immediate proceedings would bo taken to enforce payment. THE OVERSEER’S REPORT. The Overseer’s report was read and approved. Inter alia, ho stated that the Board and the Borough Council had received and paid for 25,234 small birds eggs. TENDERS. Contract No, 19.—Road-making at Totara. Tho following tenders were received G-. Crozier, £7l ; N. P. Bracotiold, £69 Is 3d (accepted). ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting '.to £3Ol la 3d were passed for payment and tho Board rose.
