The Governor’s Speech* Bexsbane, Oct. 9. The Queensland Parliament opened yesterday. His Excellency Sir Anthony Musgrave, in the course of bis speech, referred to New Guinea and the Pacific islands, saying that he believed firm and united expression of opinion on the part of the colonies, would lead to the annexation of those islands. Reference was made to the satisfactory condition of the colonial finances, and a number of Bills of local importance were promised. In the Legislative Council to-day, the Address in Reply was adopted, and in the Assembly this evening, the Hon. W. Griffiths gave notice that he would propose a direct vote of want of confidence in the present Government. Bad Weather. Melboubne, Nov. 9. Unpropitious weather for the holiday was experienced here to-day, heavy rain having fallen during several hours. The S-S- Rodondo: The position of the ’steamer Rodondo is unchanged. Pumping was commenced last night, but with little success, and the saving of the cargo is doubtful.
