Wilkin and Co., report for the week ended Thursday, Bfch November, 1883, as follows: — Business during the week has almost been at a standstill, caused no doubt by this being the Christchurch races and show week. All farmers and business men that could possibly get away have availed themselves of the opportunity of seeing without doubt the best races and show that take place in New Zealand, Horses—From causes named above very little has been doing in horses. The supply of good draughts is every day getting scarcer, while third-rate draughts, and also light and weedy hacks, are very plentiful. They quote first-class draughts, from £3O to £4O ; medium £2O to £25 ; hacks and light harness horses, from £l2 to £2O; light and weedy, £5 to £B. Cattle—They quote prime beef at 25s to 27s 6d per 1001 b. Privately, they have sold a few small lots during the week, At Washdyke yards on Monday last there was only a small entry of fat. They sold, on account of various clients, 3 fat heifers at £6, 2 do do at £8 12s 6d, 2 do steers at £8 10s. In stores; the largest entry they have seen for many months put in an appearance, the bulk of which were 2 and 3-year-old steers and heifers. The attendance was good, and biddings were more spirited than they have been for some time. The business of the day was, on the whole very satisfactory. They sold about 150 heed 2-year-old heifers from £3 to £3 7s, 6 do do steers £3 7s 6d to £3 10s, dry cows from £3 2s 6d to £4 ss, yearlings 26s 6d each. Privately through the week they have sold several small lines. Sheep—Fat sheep are in good demand at advanced rates. Prime crossbreds (shorn) are bringing from 13s to 15s per head ; do do, in the wool, 18s to 22s 6d. At Washdyke yards they sold a line prime quality shorn crossbreds at 15s. Stores—Nothing of any importance has taken place ; they have several lots under offer. They expect, as soon as shearing is over there will be a big demand for every class of stores,
