(Feb Press Association.) THIS DAY. Accident or Suicide ? Wanganui, Nov. 8. The body of a man named Joseph Shelly, who has been missing since Thursday last, was found in the river this morning, by a dragging party. He was out with his wife and brother-in-law at 9 o’clock on Thursday evening, ostensibly to _ got supper beer ; but nothing had since been heard of him. Ho came from tho Buller where he had previously been a hotelkeeper, and after, wards was employed by the Harbor Board. It was thought at the time that he had gone by tho Wallace, which left the same evening for the West Coast of the other Island, as he had

some money to come to him there. It is not known whether it was a case of suicide or an accident. No cause can be assigned for the former. Au inquest will be held. Lucky Dogs Dunedin, Nov. 8. A constable at North Dunedin drew £2OOO in a Melbourne consultation. A bank clerk on the Otago goldfields drew £I6OO in Ada Mantua’s. Destructive Fire. A fire broke out at 1 o’clock this morning, in Hatton, King and Co.’s confectionery factory, in Hanover Street. The front part of the building is completely gutted. A small quantity of stock has been saved. There is no oxplanation of the origin of the fire but it is supposed it must have been caused by a spark from a stove. The property was insured for £I2OO, the insurances being—London and Lancashire, £240 on building ; on plant and machinery, £4BO in the Equitable, and the same amount in the Australian Mutual. Mr Hatton states that the building was overinsured, but the stock and plant were worth nearly £3OOO. He expects the firm will lose heavily.
