Smith, who was shot dead near Barbarilla House, County Westmeath, on April 2,1882, while driving home frojm church in a carriage in company wit h Mr Barlow Smythe, her brother-in-j law* and Lady ‘ Henrietta Monpk. The actual murderers were at the time reported to be three men, and they & red point blank at the carriage. It wtis believed, the 1 death of Mr Barlow Sm ytbe was aimed at.
