In consequence of the, evidence recently obtained in connw jtion with the • enquiry into other crimes, the Irish police have arrested seven men on a charge of having been concerned in the murder of Mrs Henry J. Smith, who was shot dead near Barbarilla House, County Westmeath, on April 2,1882, while driving home frojm church in a carriage in company wit h Mr Barlow Smythe, her brother-in-j law* and Lady ‘ Henrietta Monpk. The actual murderers were at the time reported to be three men, and they & red point blank at the carriage. It wtis believed, the 1 death of Mr Barlow Sm ytbe was aimed at. Several arrests wejro made at the--time, bat no conclusive evidence was obtainable. |
