A CHEERFUL GATHERING.
A recent meeting of electors at Wellington, re Harbor Board elections, was a cheerful gathering, quite superior to similar meetings here. Here is an extract from the “ N.Z. Times ” report:— Chairman—l regret very much that the other candidates are not here to address you, but the weather has a great deal to do with it. (Laughter.) Yoices—“ Ob, Oh !” “ Gammon !” “ Whisky.” (Laughter.) Chairman —The British Constitution gives you a large privilege—the right to growl, but don’t abuse it. A stout man who had been drinking, rose in a passion and asked (shaking his fist) —Were you not a member of the Separation Committee at Wanganui in 1874, and because you could not get plenty of the plunder there, did you not come and settle in Yoice—That is not the question at all. •* # * * * * Calls were made for Mr McKeever. Yoice at the back—A pint of beer. (Laughter.) Mr W. McKeever mounted the platform and said—Mr Chairman and gentlemen. ' Yoice at the back—take those long boots off. (Loud Laughter.)
