In arriving at the merits > of this machine as compared with the one exhibited by the Singer Company, the jury have had considerable difficulty in arriving at their decision, and, it will be 3 satisfactory to the public to know that the awards have been given in the above order after long discussion by a majority of two to one.” OTHER EXHIBITS EXAMINED. Dear Sib, —I am directed by the Committee of Judging and Awards to acknowledge your letter of the 16th inst., and to inform you that when the Davis’ Sewing Machine Company’s -protest was I investigated by the Committee, it was decided to refer the matter back to the Jurors of Section VII., asking whether they would kindly reconsider their decision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their decision given—of a First Order of Merit, Silver Medal could be altered to ■ a recommendation of certificate of Gold Medal, the reply was that, after duo consideration, they could see no reason for altering the award. This decision was final, and accepted by the Committee, Messrs Fiske and Co. being advised of the result, consequently the advertisement you refer to is NOT OFFICIAL.
