She express train from the south was today 40 minutes late in arriving at Timaru. It appears that shortly after leaving Dunedin, the rails being wet, the engine was unable to draw the whole train up au incline, and it was found necessary to take half the carriages on for soma distance and then return for the others. This involved about half an hour’s delay throughout the journey. A quarryroan said he couldn’t see any danger in smoking while he was handling gunpowder, and now he has no eyes. This he considers conclusive evidence of the soundness of his argument. .
