TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL.

The Timaru High School Board of Governors, met last evening. Present — Messrs J. H. Sutter (Chairman), Clulee, Chisholm, Manchester, Goldsmith,Gillies McKerrow, and Dr Lovegrove.

A letter was read from Archdeacon Harper, stating that he was unable to attend until 8.30. The Board decided to wait his arrival before proceeding with the special business. EULES. The draft rules of the Board were brought up for discussion, and in the course of the conversation which ensued Rev Mr Gillies rose to disclaim certain imputations in regard 'to himself .that had been reported in the public prints. It had been alleged that he had arrogated to himself certain powers in reference to the exclusion of Miss Maclean and others from scholarship competition, and he desired to emphatically deny ever having acted on his own responsibility. Mr Chisholm thought there had been a misapprehension. The discussion referred to, arose out of a statement from Mr Dawson, to the effect that he and Mr Gillies (the then Chairman) had arranged the matter in question, between them. The Rev. Mr Gillies said it was evident that mis-statements had been made under a misapprehension. He only desired to disclaim having assumed undue powers to himself. Mr Manchester thought if the Eector had made any statement in the matter, not warranted, and on which the Board had passed resolutions, the affair should be enquired into. Mr Clulee said the matter had been left to the Chairman and the Eector originally, and there had really been nothing irregular. The matter then dropped. On arrival of Archdeacon Harper, the the Board went into committee, for the purpose of discussing certain matters connected with the internal discipline of the school.
