An Irish demonstration which took place to-day at Botany was largely attended, but the proceedings were quiet and orderly. Mr Redmond made a speech and took occasion to exonerate Egan from the charge of misappropriation of the League’s funds. PedestrianismThe walking contest between Edwards and O’Leary resulted in a victory for the former, who completed 373 miles. O’Leary did 350. Racing*. The race for the Hawkesbury Handicap to-day was won by Ad Valorem,, with Sardingo second, and Wallerocv third. Time—2rain. 39*sec. Fire. A great fire has occurred at Deniliquin, resulting in the destruction of four of the principal shops in the town. The loss of property is estimated at £SOOB, which is only partially insured.
