THE STRIKE ON THE BEACH.
[TO THE EdITOB.] Sjb,— .Would you be so kind as to insert a few remarks that I wish to make concerning the strike among the laborers on the beach, as I find the employers of labor are under the impression that I was the promoter of the strike. I beg to state that being disinterested, I therefore deny taking active part with the laborers of the grain stores or the landing service. The only part I took in the matter waa concerning the shipping, ns the men who are employed among the shipping in Lyttelton receive ten shillings per day for eight hours, and as I stated, it was only justice that a man should receive twelve shillings for ten hours in Timartr The two extra hours in Lyttelton would be considered overtime, and a man there receives fifteen shillings for ton hours. If the report is true that I am not to receive any employment on the beach, I should consider it only justice on their part to resort to (hose measures when I give them just provocation. By insert, ing these few rem irks, you will oblige. 1 am, &o:, Jajies Snoswell. Gray Road, Timaru, March 19.
