WRECK OF THE KETCH EMERALD.

[By Telegraph.] Wellington, March 15. Mhe ketch Emerald, Captain Blackstrom, went ashore in Palliser Bay on Monday evening. She is likely to become a total wreck. She left Oamaru on Friday, and was off Cape Campbell at 12 p.m. on Sunday. There was clear weather and a strong Southerly breeze blowing during the night, but it came up very thick and blew hard at 2 a.m., and not being able to make out Grencarrow light, hove to at 6 a,m., and found themselves in Palliser Bay. The Captain tried all day to beat the vessel out, but could not manage it owing to the heavy sea running. At about 7 in the evening she went ashore on a boulder beach. The crew experienced great difficulty in getting ashore. They drifted a large log ashore with a rope attached, which was made fast by the settlers on the beach. The boat was then pulled ashore by means of it. The cargo consisted of colonial produce consigned to Mr Hassell, which is insured. The amount is not known. The vessel is insured in the Now Zealand office for £550.
