BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An Ordinary meeting of the Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs Jackson (Chairman), Cullman, Gabites, Sherratt, Bush. Filmer, Gibson, and Boss. CORRESPONDENCE. The outward correspondence, in con* nection with resolutions passed, at the previous meeting of the Council was read. From the Postmaster, Timaru, asking permission to erect a receiving box, at the corner of Main South Hoad and Woollcombe streets. Granted. From residents of King street complaining of a stagnant pool in the vicinity. Referred to the Foreman of Works. From the Colonial Secretary, re the division of the Borough into Wards. From residents of Bose street asking for a road to be formed. This work was sanctioned. From Priest and Holdgate and P. W. Hutton and Co., asking for a supply of water for lavatories, etc., and enclosing a cheque of £7 7e. Granted at £2 for closets, and the same for urinals. From Mr Graham, asking leave to take water from the race flame by a hose, and enclosing a cheque for £2 2s. Granted. From the Harbor Board, re waterpipes on the wharf, and the line in which they were to be laid : also, stating that the tug Titan would require a constant supply of water. The supply was ordered to bo laid on, From the N.Z.L. and M. Company, asking the charge for water supply to the Company’s office. Two pounds per annum was ordered to bo charged. Prom Mr Newton, asking payment for shoeing his horse. The request was granted. From Mr Lawrie, asking extension of time for a metal supply contract held by him. Consideration deferred. LICENSES. A plumber’s license was granted to James Forbes, and a transfer of vehicle license sanctioned from W. Percy to M. Hobbs. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment as follows-—On general account, £199 19s 8d; on waterworks account, £54 ss. PRINTING AND ADVERTISING. Tenders were opened for printing required during the next 12 months. After discussion, Or Sherratt moved, and Or Filmer seconded, and it was carried—“ That the “ Timaru Herald ” be appointed the official journal for the ensuing 12 months, and tenders for printing bo referred to tho Finance Committee, with power to accept the lowest on behalf of tho Council.”
