Major-General Sir Evelyn Wood, who is to command one of the brigades, and Major-General Sir B. B. Hamley, who has been appointed to the command of the second division of the British army in Egypt, have embarked tor that country. Alexandeia, August 3. Rumors are current that there are serious dissensions in Arabi’s camp at Zafradowar. August 4. * Major-General Sir Archibald Allison, in command of a large force of British troops, to-day made a reconnaissance of Arabi’s position. The information previously received that Arabi had withdrawn from Zafradowar to Damanhour, a place on the railway between Alexandria and Cairo and 38 miles from the city was fully confirmed by the reconnaissance. Arabi’s outposts were seen some distance from Damanhour. The rumors of an alarming character which have been current that it was ; Arabi’s intention to make a surprise attack upon Alexandria, have been proved by Sir Archibald Allison’s reconnaissance, to be devoid of truth, and that fears of an .attack were groundless:
