A petitiori is tfe understand, to be presented against the return of Captain Sutter for Gladstone, on the ground that the Deputy-Returning ' Officer at Fairlie Creek, closed the poll before six p.m. on the day of the election. The petition is not prompted by Dr Fisher, the defeated caniddate, who the‘Herald’and its party brought forward and sacrificed to the interests of their “ talented young friend,” the late member for Geraldine. The petition is instigated by Mr Wakefield’s friends, who hope to return him for Gladstone should they be fortunat'i enough in ousting Captain Sutter. They may save themselves the trouble, for should they succeed in upsetting the election, we are certain that the electors of Gladstone would never elect the discarded;“ hereditary politician.” FUNERAL NOTICE, The friends of william lawbt are informed that his Funeral will leave the' Primitive Methodist‘ Church, Barnard street, TO MORROW, at 3 p.m. J.
