[Rbdtbr'd Agknoy.j Abortive EffortLondon Dec. 83. The projected International Exhibition at Dublin has been abandoned, in consequence of disputes in regard to a proposal to ask the Queen's patronage. ' Irish Affairs, Kettle, a prominent Leaguer, who was arrested in May last, has been released from custody owing to continued ill-health. A member of the Ladies' League has been committed for trial at Cork, for using seditious language, and imprisoned as she refused to be bailed. A seizure of 30 rifles and 50 revolrerg was made to-day by the police at Limerick. A Big Nihilist FireDoc. 24. The '• Standard " to-day publisher a telegram stating that fully one-fourth of the City of Cronstadt has been destroyed by fire. The conflagration is further stated to have been the work of Nihilists. Declined with Thanks* Capetown, Dec. 23. It is announced that Sir Evelyn Wood has refused the Governorship of Natal, and has embarked for England. Turkey and Russia* Constantinople, Dec. 23. It has transpired that the Bassiaa Government is opposing the settlement arrived at between foreign bondholders and the Ottoman Financial Commission for the payment of the Turkish debt, on the ground that the same pledges the expenditure of certain new revenues of the Turkish Empire. Libelling the Sultan* Mr O'Donovan, formerly correspondent of the London "Daily JSews" has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for libelling the Sultan. Lord Dufferin, the British Minister, is interceding with the Porte on his behalf. Tor Hearth and Home* Tunis, Dee. 23. Three o£ the principal tribes in southern Tunis continue to resist the French army, and further fighting has taken place between the latter and the insurgents. The Church Disgusted* Bomb, Deo, 23. The Pope in receiving a deputation of Cardinals to-day, stated, in the couw of his address that his position in Bom* was daily growing unbearable, and he feared that the Church would have to submit to further persecution.
