MELBOURNE, Dec. 8The Government consulted ten counsel to ascertain whether the statutory majority had been obtained. On Thursday Messrs Michie, Webb, and Wiliiams expressed an opinion adverse to the Government. The opinion of the others is yet unknown. It is stated the outcome of the recent division will be that Government will substitute a moderate lie form Bill. Cable advices announce a substantial rise in iron. Dec. 9. The speeches of Mr Berry indicate an intention to accept the defeat in the Assembly and then appeal to the country.
