We would direct the attention of our readers to the important announcement of Mr Montagu Pym in our auction columns. We have received from Messrs Clifford and Morris several cartes representing incidents connected with the Famine. The getup of the photos reflect credit on the artists. We have received from the proprietor of the London Portrait Rooms, several photographs of the sufferers by the Indian Famine. As works of art they could not well be surpassed. We have received from Sydney a specimen copy of “ Castner’s Rural Australian,” a journal devoted to horticulture. It is a creditable production, and is well worthy of support. Ok the 19th page of this issue will be found Mr Elliott’s advertisemeatjannouncing a great sale of boots and shoes at his emporium, George Street. Mr Elliott has an excellently selected stock of leather goods at his establishment.

We desire again to respectfully request advertisers to bring their favours into our office before 1 o’clock on the Thursday, if they wish their announcements to obtain publicity in the centres of population throughout the Colony where the Advertiser so largely circulates. In next issue, Jack Bannister’s Rambles will be concluded, and a new tale, written expressly for this journal by Mr Richmond Thatcher, will be commenced. Our usual monthly supplement will also be issued with our next number. Intending subscribers should send in their names at once.

Thompson’s American War. —This very popular entertainment has been drawing capital houses at the Queen’s Theatre during the week. The eloquent lectures of Mr Thompson have been well received, and the really clever ventriloqual performances of Lieutenant Herman have evoked considerable applause. This Friday and Saturday will positively be the last nights of the Diorama in Dunedin, and the enterprising proprietor will give away a number of valuable gifts and prizes. On Saturday afternoon there will he a grand matinee, for the benefit of schools and families. The comfort of visitors is well looked after by the obliging manager, Mr W. T. Smythe.
