THEATRICAL ITEMS.
The Eev. Charles Clark has been doing a stroke in the City of the Plains. Theatrical affairs are dull at Christchurch. The Bose Brothers are doing a fair business on the West Coast. Mr Wheatleigh’s Company have beeu drawing average houses at. Auckland. Wellington has been flooded with amusements during the past week or two. The Theatre Boyal, the Princess Theatre, St. George’s, and the Oddfellows’ Hall have had each a company “ holding the mirror up ” to the public of the Windy City. This is the benefit season in Melbourne it seems. According to the Lorgnette, Messrs Harwood, Greville, and Coppin, and Mr and Mrs Laurence have all been appealing to the Melbourne public. The Soldenes did a splendid business in Sydney, and are now drawing good houses in Melbourne. , >.;• \ > Our old, friend Mr J. J. Bartlett has returned to the Colonies, from America. ' ■ Mr Pope has been well received by the Sydney public. Mr Henry Walton made a “ hit ” in Adelaide. His representation of Con _ the “ Shaughraun ” has been favourably noticed by the South Australian Press. Miss Ada Ward has been giving readings in the New South Welsh country towns, with great success. The Apollo Hall, Melbourne, was opened on October 27th, with a new Variety Company. Mrs Scott-Siddons left Melbourne: on the Bth November for a Provincial tour with a very strong company, under the management of Mr W. J. Holloway. The following artists also travel with her : —Misses Kate Arden, Alice Deorwyn, Ellen Lenoir, Annie Milton, Maud Douglas, Constance Deorwyn, and Messrs William Andrews, B. W. Lawrence, Chas. Holloway, Herbert Plemmy, J. H. Martin, E. B. Boothman, Cottier, Peter Mansergh, J. H. Deoawyn, and Burton. J. P. Thomas, mechanist. The company opened at Sandhurst on the 9th November, in “ Much Ado About Nothing.”
