A MEMENTO.
(Original.) It was a flow’r that came frae the hand O’ a fair ladye, And the hopes that came wi’ it, long ago Did wither and dee. Oh she was fair as the day is fair, Bonny and bright; And her beauty’s radiance shone round my soul, Angel of light! The sun may as in the olden time, Follow its track, But the glory and light of the vanished hours Will ne’er come back. Faded the flowers, and fled the hope, And crushed the heart; Cometh a sadness and gloom o’ night That will ne’er depart. Still through the strife and the fierce despair, And the clouds that lour, For memory’s sake, and the sad sweet past, I’ll treasure the flow’r. Amadis.
