—Mr Charles G. Leland (Hans Breitmann) is about to issue another of his philological drolleries. The mock language employed in * the ballads will this time be the corrupted form of English spoken in China between the >" foreigners and the natives, known as “ pigeon English. ” The volume will be called ‘ ‘ SingSing Pidgen English. ” —A volume of Essays, by writers, on the “ Endowment of Research,” will be issued by Messrs King and Co., early in April. The contributors are the Rev. Mark Pattison, J. S. Cotton, C. E. Appleton, Rev. ;. A. H. Sayce, Henry Nettleship, H. C. Sorby, F.R.S., Rev. T. K. Cheyne, and Professor Thiselton Dyer. —A Civil List pension of £IOO per annum has been allotted to Dr. John Brown, of f Edinburgh, in recognition of his literary eminence. . v >
