We observe that Mr. C. Beeby, working jeweller, has opened a shop in Farley’s Arcade. Mr. Beeby has a choice selection of richly mounted stones and other ornaments on view.
We have received from Mr. Joseph Braithwaite “The New Zealand Songster, No. 4.” It is, if anything, better than the previous numbers, and the selection of songs and recitations is creditable to the compiler. It deserves a largo sale. We have on our library table the Marquis of Lome’s new work—“A Tale of the Riviera”: Macmillan, London; and Reith and Wilkie, Dunedin. We shall review it in our next number. The Household Friend, a neat little literary venture published at Nelson, has reached us. It is a weekly journal devoted to light literature, and, from a glance at its columns, we consider it well worthy of support.
Oi'R report of the Interprovincial Cricket Match is unfortunately crushed out by the number of advertisements which have come in to our office at the last moment. We would respectfully intimate to our patrons that it is desirable they should forward their advertisements not later than 10 o’clock on Thursday morning. We have much pleasure in informing our lady friends who have sent in competitive Essays for our Five Guinea prize on “ Dress,” that
H. S. CHAPMAN, Esq., has kindly consented to act as judge. Tuesday next is the last day for receiving MSS.
