The Quality of Mercy.
MILITARY OFFENDERS PARDONED. Acting under instructions received recently, the gates were thrown open and iS military offenders walked out of Darlinghurst Gaol. Many of them were serving sentences of six months and more, while two were in for life and two for 15 years' penal servitude. All had been convicted of purely military offences. At first they were unable to realise that they were free. And then, with the realisation of their freedom, they gave vent to unmistakable signs of joy. The flatiron belonging to the guard was very much in demand and almost every one of the prisoners, ironed and pressed their uniforms before leaving the gaol. A number stated their intention of celebrating their release by marching once again with their old ' units in yesterday's march. —"Sydney Times."
