Whangateau Sports On account of the International situation, it was decided at a meeting of the Whangateau Sports Club held early this week, to hold a Grand Patriotic Picnic on New "Year's Day instead of the usual athletic meeting with horse events. It is proposed, however, to include on the programme a number of races, etc., for children and young men and women, as well us a number of competitions. "Nancibel" in New Dhess Messrs Gubbs Kawau Services' O.Y. Nancibel, which has been on the slipway at the Warkworth town wharf for the past few days for the purpose of overhaul and painting, resumed her usual ru»shetween Sandsnit and Eawau last week-end. Her former drab appearance has been transformed with the coating of paint received and she now looks in particularly gay trim. The hull has been given coats of red and green, while' the deck fittings, etc,, have been carried out in "wheelhouse" white. The interior of the passengers' cabin and wheelhouse have been painted in pastel green. \^. Waiwera Hoese Owner's Success At the Waikato Trotting Club's meeting at Claudelanda last Saturday, "Waiwera Jewell," a brown fill}, 3 years, owned by Mrs G. Schiscbka, of Waiwera, was suc6essful in winning the second division of the Frank ton Handicap, a distance of ]£ miles. It was one of the surprise wins of the day's racing. The horse started at long odds and returned double figures to its backers.
