Warkworth Town Board

The fortnightly meeting of above* was held in the Boaru's offices lastMonday evening. Commissioners present were Messrs L. A. Petherick (Chairman), P. A. McDowell,. T. W. Collins, A. S. Smith and A. S.: Carran.

Town Hall Piano.—The Board' considered the question of replacing: the hall' piano, which is in a bad state of disrepair, and later carried out an inspection of a horizontal, grand piano of English manufacture^ which had been placed in the hall on approval. —The chairman was authorised to seek other advice concerning, the instrument, with full power to act.

Supply of Water. —Messrs H. G. Littlejonn, E. J. W. Taylor and B. O. L. Rees, members of the Warkworth Bowling Club, waited on the Board relative to the supply of water for the club's greens.—The Chairman and Com. Smith were authorised to investigate the position.

Building Report. — The building.inspector, Mr D, W. Knaggs, at: tended-the meeting and reported thatcertain building materials were being used on the Warkworth Post Office' job which were contrary to the Board's by-laws. He also reported that alterations to Mrs G. H. Phillips' residence and. the store-room and shed for Rodney Motors Ltd. were completed. Work was now proceeding in connection with tW residence for Rodney Motors' Ltd. night attendant.

Lease of Town Hall. —An application of Collins and Lovell for thehire of the Town Hall every Wednesday night at a rental of 30s per night was approved—the Board reserving the right to let the hall on five Wednesdays during the year, providing one month's notice be given to lessee. In the event of the Board taking a Wednesday night, then the lessees may have any other night of that week other than Saturday at a rental of £l, the Board's solicitor to be instructed to draw up an agreement in terms of the above.

Petrol Tax Allocation—A communication was received from Mr J. G.Barclay, M.P. for"Marsden, advising that it was the Government's policy to restore the whole of thepetrol tax back to the upkeep of the roads. . Mr Barclay said that itwould take time to develop thispolicy, and it would probably mean the taking over of the Main Highways by the Main Highways Board. Public 'Works Subsidy .—The clerk reported that he had received subsidies of £37/17/6 on the AucklandManngaturofco M.H. and £4/9/2 on the Warkworth-Leigh M.H. The Main Highways Inspector was requested to look into the matter of the danger of trucks parking, in Hill-street.

Warkworth Ladies' Rest Room.—Me,sdames A. S. Carran and T W, Collins were appointed to act jointly as the Board's representatives in the= administration of the rest room. — The Clerk reported that hoth ladieshad kindly consented to act.

Dog Registrar.—The Town Clerk was appointed dog registrar for the--ensuing year. . Accounts.-—Accounts ampunting tp« *98/ l 8/4. were passed for pay ment.
