RODNEY v. AUCKLAND

The team selected from the Auckland Association, which met the Kodney representatives at Matakana on Fi iday and Saturday last proved to be a particularly strong side and spectators were entertained with the best exhibition of cricket ever seen in the North, the batting of the Auckland team being a rare treat. In the first innings the visitors were a little strange to the matting wicket but made up for it in the second, when Jack Mills (one of the most stylish batsmen in New Zealand) put on 97., S. Sale 103 not out, and J. Cowie, Auckland rep., gave the best exhibition of big hitting ever seen in the North, his 83 including 9 sixes. The veteran Rodney rep., "Pat" Dunning made his first appearance this season and showed that both with the bat and in the field he has lost none of his old brilliance. N. Vipond and Dunning Bros, were Rodney's chief scorers and L. Came and L. Anderson made a valuable last wicket stand of 32.
