"You're not to go out in the garden!" said Mildred's irate papa.
"Nonsense!" had been the mutinous retort of eight-year-old Mildred, as she banged the scullery door and raced up the wet garden after her muddy little
puppy,
Wherefore, an hour later, Mildred was bellowing loudly in her little cot, mightily weary of the world and its ways. <>
Sounds of the wailing drifted below stairs, where Mildred's parents were just preparing to start to a social gathering. The mother heart was touched, and, dressed in all her visiting array, she went to her erring little daughter's bed-room.
Cuddling the tearful child in her arms, she walked over to the dressing-table.
"Look at that ugry. little face in the glass," she said sadly.
Mildred stopped sobbing and gazed. "Which one. mummie?" she asked
