THE IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE.
There is perhaps no more essential factor a satisfactory egg supply than k^^ing the hens busily, employed, since this not only assists very materially in maintaining health and vigor, but it also acts as a preventive against their becoming too fat. Fat hens are rarely profitable, as they invariably produce fewer eggs than those in a hard-work-ing condition, besides which the germs are likely to be weak and delicate. It is a good plan to litter this covered run with chaff or straw, and scatter the grain among it, This* gives employment to the birds for several hours of the day, and it is the best preventive of such evils as feather picking, egg eating, and similar vices,
