The S.S. Hauiti.
- To-day the new steamer S.S. Hauiti made her first trip to Warkworth, breaking through tin? ribbon and .making .fast to the wharf, at four minutes past one, after going to Orewa, and.spending nearly half an hour at Waiwera wharf. : The steamer • , A was designed by Mr Gow, the head engineer to the Northern S.S. Co. Her Hues are good, and considerable thought has been expended to obtain .the maximum of comfort for the travel Hug public. In appearance the Hauiti is a good deal like the S.S. Gael. Her dimensions are, length 100 feet; beam 20 feet, depth 7 feet 6 inches, and gross tonage 150 tons. Large bilgo keels are fitted to ease the rolling. The quarter deck runs from bridge to stern. Passenger accommodation is provided aft; the men's dining saloon is ori~ the quarterdeck, the ladies* in-the deck-house adjoining. Each apartment is tastefully upholstered, and is thoroughly well lighted and ventilated. The officers are herthed in the bridge amidships, in rooms comfortably furnished. The crew are housed in comfortable quarters forward. Electric light is installed and fitted throughout the vessel. The hold will take in 60 tons measurement. It was hoped to run the trial trip before the New Year, but she was not completed in time. The trial run took place last Friday afternoon. The run. from Bean Rock lighthouse to the wharf was,dpne at just a fraction under 10£ knots per hour, S.S. Hauiti will run a trip down, the river and round the islands outside the Heads on Thursday January Ilth leavingJWarkworth wharf at 10 a. m. The public are invited to take this opportunity of inspecting the new vessel and judge for themselves the arrangements .made for the comfort of travelling public. Captain McKenzie is in command with Mr Scott mate, Mr G. Ashton stewardi and Miss] McLcod stewardess.
