LABOUR FOR SAMOA.

Five hundred indentured labourers recently arrived at Samoa, having been recruited by Captain Cartel from Canton. They were medically examined under the direction of the Chinese Commissioner and the British Government officials at Hong Kong before embarkation.. Several Chinese officials travelled to Samoa by the same steamer as labourers and some will be employed as interpreters. No fewer than forty Chinese who had not been engaged by Captain Carter endeavoured to stop on the vessel, in the hope of getting to Samoa.
