Received July 9,; noon Newcastle, July 9 Owing to the serious competition of Japanese traders the onion growers are seeking protection to the extent of £6 a ton. Mr Greene, .Customs Minister, is ascertaining the cost of production in Japan. Mr Greene declined to increase the price of butter from 2a Id to 3s, explaining that he was shortly withdrawing butter from prioo-fiixng.
