MARTON-LEVIN RAILWAY.

DEPUTATION TO MR MASSEY. Per Press Association Wellington, Jnly 8 A deputation met the Premier and the Minister of Public Works to urge that in view of the proposal to spend money in shifting the station at Palmerston North, Government should consider constructing the Levin-Greatford deviation of the Main Trunk railway, which would be more advantageous to the district as a whole aud this would shorten the rpnte by 16 miles. Mr Massey said that relieving the congestion at Palmerston was an urgent matter, but he recognised the importance of the considerations brought forward, but it would mean constructing 40 miles of new line which was difficult in the present labour shortage. He promised that nothing .would be done until he and tho Hon Mr Coates could go over the ground after the session.
